What are Adhesive Dentures?

For patients who are fully edentulous (without teeth), adhesive dentures have been the go-to treatment for centuries. For patients who need a full upper or lower arch of teeth replaced, dentures restore speech clarity, chewing ability, and smile confidence. Using a mold of patients’ gums and jawbone, a custom denture is created to fit comfortably and securely.

About Adhesive Dentures

The procedure of getting adhesive dentures is quite simple; a mold of your mouth is made so that your dentures fit perfectly. At first, dentures may seem awkward but as time goes on simple things such as eating and talking will become completely normal. Dentures also give you the freedom from worry, due to the lack of tooth extractions, cavities, root canals, or cleanings you will not have to continue. Overall, your mouth’s appearance will look it's very best at all times. In addition, our office provides non-slip dentures to ensure your happiness and comfort are met in their entirety

Reasons Why Dentures May Be Needed:

  • Natural loss of teeth
  • Severe decay in numerous teeth
  • An accident that caused substantial tooth loss
  • Teeth missing already due to past tooth extractions

Adhesive Dentures Care Tips

Proper care of your dentures is vital not only for the dentures themselves, but to preserve your oral health. Here are some tips on maintaining your dentures and ways you can improve the fit and wear of your adhesive dentures.

Denture cleaning tips:

  • After eating, you should always remove, rinse, and clean your dentures. (Tip: place a towel on the sink or counter to prevent your dentures from breaking or chipping if you drop them)
  • Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, gently clean your mouth after removing your dentures. Remember to clean your entire mouth, including your gums, tongue, cheeks, and roof of your mouth.
  • Always handle your dentures carefully to avoid dropping them.
  • Brush and clean your dentures daily
  • Soak your dentures overnight in a denture cleaning solution (or warm water is OK).
  • Rinse your dentures off completely clean before putting them back in your mouth
  • Schedule regular dental checkups
  • If you have a loose or awkward fit, see your dentist. Loose dentures can cause irritation, mouth sores, and infections.

***Things to avoid: Hot water (hot or boiling water may warp your dentures), whitening toothpaste, abrasive cleaning products, bleaching products.

Adhesive denture wear tips:

  • Never use more adhesive than recommended.
  • Start with a small amount of adhesive - if it squeezes into the mouth, you've used too much.
  • Typically, a 2.4 oz. tube of denture adhesive should last 7 - 8 weeks.
  • Speak slowly and deliberately when first wearing your dentures until the adhesive has set. Even a small bit of force can cause them to slip, shift, or fall out.
  • Be cautious in the types of foods you eat. Chewy, crisp, or crunchy foods require more bite force and can impact the seal of the adhesive, possibly dislodging your dentures.
