What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-colored materials that are designed to cover the front side of the teeth. The application of dental porcelain veneers is usually a permanent process due to the necessity to remove a small amount of enamel from the teeth to accommodate the new shell. See some examples of Porcelain Veneers.
Some reasons veneers have been applied to teeth are due to:
- Discoloration from treatments, stains, or other causes
- Being worn down, chipped or broken
- Misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped
- Have gaps between them
Benefits of Veneers
The advantages of having veneers is a natural tooth appearance, a conservative approach to changing the tooth’s color and shape and, veneers generally don’t require extensive reshaping prior to the procedure that crowns do. Moreover, they offer a stronger, more aesthetic alternative to bonding.
The color of the veneers can be selected as such that it makes dark teeth appear whiter. In addition, another great benefit is that the patient’s gums tend to tolerate porcelain well, thus providing a more comfortable result with the new addition.
